Zenaido’s Room
(2019)
“Zenaido’s Room” was performed on October 31, 2019. For 13 hours I put on and took off my makeup, each time inspired by a different person or character. I began at 8 am, the earliest time most classes start at Fresno State (where it was performed), and ended at 9 pm, when most classes ended. The performance was open to the public and live streamed on the internet. Photos were created after each look. Viewers of the performance were encouraged to sign a print made for the performance.
It was inspired by “Lea’s Room,” a performance done by Karen LeCocq and Nancy Youdelman. It was first performed at Womanhouse in the early 1970s during their time as students at CalArts.
